06/08 - 4902 Lincoln Ave: A two-story suburban home with a modest appearance. From the exterior, nothing appeared unusual besides the sprawling patches of moss covering the paneling. “Maybe artificial?” I thought. Upon closer examination, I was shocked to find out that it was, in fact, naturally grown moss. On a house that was only a couple of days old at most. Faced with this building's unsettling aura, I was soon seized with anxiety. Even if I knew at the time that there probably wasn’t any danger, I couldn't help but sense that my presence was unwelcome. I felt as though I was disturbing the peace that reigned before my arrival.
Upon entering, I was greeted by a faint noise resembling television static, of which I was unable to locate the source. The first few rooms I inspected were completely devoid of furniture or any kind of electrical appliances. However, there were numerous deeply imbedded dents and marks across the carpet, which led me to believe that this building had certainly been occupied in the past. Venturing further into the first floor of the property, I came across an office that was actually furnished. As I stood in the doorway, it looked perfectly ordinary. A medium-sized office adorned with a mahogany desk at the center. But when I moved my head a little, it seemed like the furniture was ever so slightly warping and skewing. I’d say a three-degree difference, if observed while moving one’s head along the width of the doorway. The wall opposite the doorway had a skew of about 20 degrees clockwise. (Though, keep in mind that I only had very rudimentary measuring tools at this point.) and the adjacent wall was the widest one in the office. (I will be sure to include a top-view plan.) “What a strange little novelty room!” I thought at first. Maybe this is meant to be a conversation piece? Or perhaps, they had a passion for optical illusions. This neighborhood does tend to attract eccentric characters.
I figured I would then go around the backyard. However, this little detour almost derailed the entire expedition.
